Are You Hangin’ on the Edge of Your Seat? Second Round of Queen Remasters Have Track Lists

with 4 comments

With all the excitement in and out of Second Disc HQ, we couldn’t dare let the revelation of confirmed bonus content on the second wave of Queen reissues pass you by. The track lists for each bonus EP for the next batch of remasters – News of the World, Jazz, The Game, Flash Gordon and Hot Space – were posted to Queen’s website Thursday. And they’re pretty much what you might expect, with a little bit of what you might not.

Once again, each EP has about five or six tracks, drawing from either live content, outtakes or rare non-LP B-sides. Each disc has something unreleased; all five of News‘ bonus cuts may be unreleased, drawn mostly from a 1977 BBC session and live sets recorded years after the original LP (one may have appeared on the 1979 set Live Killers, continuing the odd trend of including tracks from previously-released live albums in the mix). Many of those tracks are taken from two nights in Montreal in 1981 and a show at Milton Keynes Bowl months later in 1982, both of which were released in full as Queen on Fire: Live at the Bowl and Queen Rock Montreal.

Single mixes and edits of “Bicycle Race,” “Flash” and “Back Chat” as well as the two non-LP tracks from these albums – “A Human Body,” from the “Play the Game” single, and “Soul Brother” from the B-side to “Under Pressure” – are included. Some of the outtakes look particularly interesting, including different takes on some of the Flash Gordon soundtrack material and “It’s a Beautiful Day,” first recorded in 1980 and reworked for the posthumous Queen album Made in Heaven (1995).

These sets land in the U.K. on June 27, about a month after the first batch of remasters make their stateside appearance. There’s no timetable for when the new sets will appear in the U.S., but I’d bet by the time they do, we’ll know what bonus material will grace the next batch. Check it out after the jump.

  1. The bonus tracks look like a nice mix of stuff like rare B sides and such. I was hoping for more on News Of The World, but it looks good as it is. I heard on a radio broadcast a version of It’s Late that was amazing and I wish that was included. But perhaps as a later date? I also hope Amazon will release this second bundle as a box set like the first set which is coming out in 2 weeks.

  2. I think I’m justified in whining when I say it sux we in the US have to wait for our batches to be made available. Wtf! Ok, off my chest — a bit. Lookkng forward to these tho. And even Hot Space too. Take away the song Body Language, and its a great album start to finish. In the meantime, the first batch arrives in 10 days. Woo-hoo!

  3. I am surprised they did not make a bonus version of the Flash Gordon album minus the dialogue.

  4. Overall, this is a pretty good mix of rarities/songs not readily available. Better than the previous batch. Fascinated to hear what “Football Fight” sounds like without synthesizers. Maybe it’s just the drum track!
